Airbus Helicopters designed Flightlab as a flight lab to develop new technologies. Flightlab aims to test technologies quickly for the Airbus’ current helicopter range, future fixed-wing aircrafts and VTOL platforms. Airbus Helicopters also plans to reduce helicopter sound levels, improve maintenance and flight safety with the Flightlab.
First tests started on this new platform in April 2020. The platform was used to measure helicopter sound levels in urban areas and to study the effects of buildings on human perception. Also in December, tests on the ‘Rotor Strike Alerting System’ were conducted to warn the crew on the risk of imminent collision with main and tail rotors.
With this new flight lab, Airbus Helicopters aims to provide customers with more safety, less workload on pilots and lower noise levels.
